"Kim treated my elbow and taught me loads of exercises I can do to manage my elbow injury. I am now more aware about how I use it to protect it when I climb and play golf."
Male, age 36, keen climber and golfer with elbow problems.
At your first appointment, Kim will ask you about your health, past and present. He will ask questions about your complaint, medical history, general health and any medication you may be taking. He'll also ask you about things like exercise and life events.
Kim will carry out a careful physical examination and use palpation (sense of touch) to identify tension and movement patterns and points of weakness or excessive strain in your body. He will normally ask you to remove some of your clothing and perform a simple series of movements. (Please ensure you wear clothing that you are comfortable in e.g. gym wear))
After talking to you and taking time to assess your condition Kim will discuss with you the osteopathic treatment and approach he feels will be most beneficial to you.
Osteopaths use a wide range of gentle manipulations, depending on your age, fitness and diagnosis.
Treatment is different for every patient but may include techniques such as different types of soft tissue massage and joint articulation to release tension, stretch muscles, help relieve pain and mobilise your joints.
Kim may show you exercises to do at home and suggest ways you can improve your posture and movement.
